Subscription infrastructure is the part of a SaaS that quietly decides whether it survives. I have built it repeatedly: tiered plans, metered access, webhook-driven state, and the self-serve dashboard that keeps support out of the loop.

Most interesting problems live at the seam between two services that were never designed for each other. Marketplace APIs, payment providers, model vendors - the work is absorbing their disagreements so the product does not have to.

A model call is easy. Shipping one that admits uncertainty, costs what you predicted, and degrades gracefully when a provider goes down is the actual engineering - and it is what keeps users trusting the output.
